Our day started at the hall where we were treated to pancakes!
We worked on word work and read to self again today, while I pulled some students to do some rhyming assessments. They did much better at independent work today.
Have a good night!
What a crazy day! Our day started at the hall where we were treated to pancakes! When we came back, some of us had sore bellies from all the pancakes! We worked on the sound that the letter "x" makes during Jolly Phonics. We worked on word work and read to self again today, while I pulled some students to do some rhyming assessments. They did much better at independent work today. During ELA, and math (oops!) we wrote " A spider would make a (good/bad) pet because..." students had to fill in the blank. We then made spiders to go with it! After lunch we attempted to read to self for 11 minutes. Sadly we didn't make it😩 In science we talked about how our sense help protect us and keep us safe. Friday tomorrow!! Yay!! I will be hearing students with their words of the week tomorrow!
Have a good night!

My oh my did I ever have some excited little hockey players today! They were sure wishing the day would go quickly! In jolly phonics today, we reviewed all of our sounds and then had a little contest to see who could make the most words. The students who made the most words, were rewarded with lunch with me today for their hard work! I know the others will work extra hard in the next activity, so they will have lunch with me! (Everyone will get their turn) We attempted to do Daily 3 today. We had a couple hiccups, so it didn't quite go as planned. I am hoping our next attempt is a bit better! I had students working on word work, and some working on read to self. While they are independently working, I pull students to work with. We heard the story Arrgh Spider! We then made a class graph of who thinks a spider would make a good pet, and who doesn't think a spider would make a good pet. Math we worked on our pre test for our next unit. We are going to work on this a little more tomorrow- some students I think can do it but they mixed up some signs. During science we talked about how objects sometimes change. Water turns to ice, wood can be sanded down, and popcorn kernel turns to popcorn. We then used our senses as we watched, smelt, heard, tasted and touched popcorn. I have never seen anyone get so excited to see popcorn popping as this group! We ended our day with reviewing the red zone, which is anger, and drew pictures of ourselves when we are in this zone. Dont forget that the book fair is tomorrow night! Students will get a chance to go to it during our library time tomorrow, so feel free to send money with them if you want, and/or you won't be able to make it to the evening activities tomorrow night. Reminder that the students will be given $5 from the SCC to put towards a book as well. There was a note sent home about Halloween. Here it is if it happened to get lost. There may not be a post tomorrow. I am helping coach learn to play hockey again this year, and then I have a meeting tomorrow after. So if there isn't a post, please forgive me! :)
Also a heads up that Thursday morning there will be a pancake breakfast! Wow! Lots today!! I think I covered everything! Have a great night! Very short blog tonight! (Kind of nice for me!) This morning we talked about the letter "v" during our Jolly Phonics time. We were very lucky today! We had Mr. Faubert come in and read to the PreK to 2's! We received our new words of the week this morning, and then had some time to work with them. In math we talked about the number that comes before and after a certain teen number. Tomorrow I will be doing a pre assessment to see how they do with addition and subtraction. Based on how they do, Mrs K and I may do some shuffling between our two classes to meet everyone's needs. This afternoon students were treated to a movie afternoon, while the teachers all met to work in our reading goals.
Tomorrow won't be such a "slack" day for them! Have a good night! TGIF! This morning we began our day with some free journal writing. Once students were done, they had to self assess themselves to see how they did. During Jolly Phonics we reviewed the sound that 'ng' makes. We made our own Creepy Carrots today during ELA. When students were done they worked on some word work activities. In math we worked on finishing our math from yesterday. I had a couple students not finish, so please check binders. I have starred the ones I want them to do. During science we talked about how we can protect all of our senses. We ended our day with the chrome books. We went into Raz Kids and then spent the last 15 minutes playing games. Have a great weekend!
What another busy day in first grade1! During our Jolly Phonics time, we reviewed the sound that "w" makes. We had so much fun during our Word Work time that I don't even think the students knew they were practicing their words! I cannot believe how well some of them are doing! (I posted a video on twitter of the bowling!) Tomorrow I will hear students with their words. We continued with making connections to Creepy Carrots. Today students had to draw Jasper being scared, and then they had to draw a picture of what they said they were scared of yesterday. In math we continued our work with teen numbers. In social we talked about what being a good friend looks and sounds like. We also talked about what happens to our hearts when people aren't always nice to each other. I am hoping this visual sticks with them! In health we continued our talk about the zones of regulation. Today we talked about the blue zone- which is when we feel sad, sick, or tired. Students had to draw them sad and then think of 3 things that make them sad, and then draw it. There was a note sent home today about next Friday, so please check binders for that.
Tomorrow is Blue Jay Day! So wear some Blue Jays gear or something blue if you are like me and don't have any Blue Jays gear! Have a good night! |
